PROTECT: Nextdoor Neighborhood


  • Connect with the Neighborhood Association in place for your section of town.
  • Identify a smaller area that you and your neighbors consider "your" neighborhood and make this your Next Door Watch
  • Sign-up for Nextdoor at https://nextdoor.com
    • Match-up nextdoor.com neighbors with those that don't have internet access to keep them in the loop
  • Make your Nextdoor Neighborhood into whatever your neighborhood needs.
  • Sign-up for the Miami County Emergency Notification System at miamicounty911.com
    • Help the non-social media neighbors do this with their land-line telephone.
  • Flyer your neighborhood with materials from the police department, neighborhood association, or other sources known to be credible to increase involvement and engagement.  Check out things downloaded from email threads or social media sites before spreading them further.
  • Don't assume that poor turn-out at a meeting means nobody cares.  It's difficult for people to find time to attend meetings, especially if they are unsure of the value.  Center meetings around specific topics and a core group of people you know prefer to receive information in a meeting format.  Consider combining with other Nextdoor Neighborhood Meetings with your Neighborhood Association meeting.
  • Discuss ways you can help each other out in various types of emergencies.
  • Work together to address problem properties near your homes.
